We finally stopped waiting around for the right moment to write about one of our favorite designers! So brace yourself for an excessive amount of references from Gossip Girl as you get to know a little more about our girl! The first time we saw the brand was at a styling brunch towards winter ‘20/21. She had only one piece of each design. The pieces really stood out, and we were drawn towards them. After a couple of glasses of Prosecco, we decided to try on the pieces and managed to have a chat with the designer, Laura. She explained that there was only one piece per design because this is a made on-demand premium brand for women. Bye, fast fashion!

A couple of months down the lane, we got to know the designer and her brand a little bit more. Her made on demand pieces are revolutionising the fashion game, pieces reflecting the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Shanghai. She has gone the extra mile in terms of luxurious tailoring with a modern, androgynous influence. In a conversation with the designer, we were able to get a glimpse into her background.

As per usual, we would want to know how it all started, what inspired the designer to get to where she is now.

“So basically, I started picking out my own outfits from the time I was 6. Then at 15, I saw some clothes I couldn’t find in the store, so I made my first dress then! From then on, the clothes I felt I couldn’t find, I just made for myself. I also used to love watching One Tree Hill. I always identified with the character Brooke Davis, who was a fashion designer. Now when I look back, that probably was just building for the woman I wanted to become”.
“我从 6 岁就开始挑选搭配自己的衣服。 然后在 15 岁时，我看到了一些衣服可是在商店里找不到，于是我亲手做了我人生中第一件衣服！从那时开始，每当我在商店里找不到我想要的衣服时，我就自己动手制作。我曾经很喜欢看一部剧“篮球兄弟”， 我很喜欢里面鲁克戴维斯这个角色，她是一名时装设计师。现在回想起来，可能正她启发我成为这样的女性。”
The creative process manifests in different ways and on different timelines for each person. We were curious as to the creative process and where inspiration comes from for Laura.

“I am in love with the fabric. First, I find the fabric, and then I design. The inspiration comes from everything around me. My biggest inspiration remains French and Italian women, style, the culture, + Chinese architecture/culture for sure after 6 years in China. I can see a dress in every object. It is also not just one person who I would identify as my biggest inspiration. Women in the world, mostly my mother, the strong women around me that are becoming more and more emancipated, I am impressed by the new generation.
“我们喜欢材质面料。首先我会找到我喜欢的面料，然后我开始设计。我的灵感来自身边的一切。我最大的灵感是法国和意大利的女性风格和文化，在中国呆了 6 年后， 中国建筑和文化也成为我灵感来源之一。我可以在任何事物中看到一件衣服的影子。我认为我的灵感不只是来自于某个人。而来自世界上的女人们，尤其是我的母亲，还有我身边那些坚强的女性和她们越来越解放的意识，我很欣赏新一代女性。”

The coronavirus pandemic had a significant impact on creatives and the design world in general. Did it impact Laura in any way?
Yes, definitely, yes. I find my biggest inspiration in France with my family. Not having the luxury to travel for a year and a half affected my mood and affected my creativity.
