Connecting with music: Another by Amy Fitz Doyley

I've been thinking about human connections lately, what it feels to be loved, love, be a part, connect with people, connect with art, etc. I've pondered the different facets of intimacy and vulnerability. It's always a beautiful thing to find something that you connect with. Anyone who spends time with me will be happy to know that there is a new addition to the songs I overplay! If my music was a mood board, it probably hasn't changed in the last couple of years.

A few weeks ago, I discovered an artist called Amy Fitz Doyley. She released a new song titled "Eye of the needle". I explored her catalogue and found this one song titled "Another". Before I actually get into the song itself, I must say that this artist is definitely something special. Her voice is very soothing, gives you some kind of goosebumps; it feels like it's taking you on a journey. It's like it floats past, a perfume-like aura that subtly overwhelms whilst leaving a distinct mark on the listener. When it comes to music, I quickly get captivated by the sound that it will take me 500 listens before I get into a space where I remember that there are actually words in the thing. The bass line on the track "Another" is captivating. I am not very good at identifying instruments, but the way they are all woven together is chilling. The moment the song starts, it feels like it's transporting you into this magic land. When she began to sing with the opening lyrics, I felt like I had begun to reminisce about an old lover who could always ignite a flame within me.

“needed you a little more…. you love me differently...”

As the song progresses, as it revels in some kind of comfort, patching together those distinctive orchestral flourishes against a vocal style that dwells on beauty. It's like watching a painting come into focus, its impressionistic hues shimmering from the speakers. I can go on and describe the different feelings the track gives me. Like her voice feels like it transports you on a journey. The song allows itself space to shift and evolve. It's always a different experience when you connect with someone else’s art, especially when it gets you to connect with the vulnerable side of yourself or a beautiful memory imprinted on you.
