Lizzy’s Naturals: A one day juice detox cleanse

So, how did we end up getting into a space where we felt we wanted to try a juice cleanse? Minus the lifestyle “influencing” that happened, we also went digging for some information from other people’s experiences.

Your body sometimes needs a break from the stress of digesting. Our bodies work really hard in digesting all the food we eat, and that's about half the energy our bodies use. This means that when you give your body a rest from digesting for a day. You allow it to get going on some other activities that it put on the back burner while feeding it with all that hard to digest food. This then gives the body a chance to finish the other stuff on its to-do list. This includes clearing up your skin, boosting your immune system, reducing bloating, increasing your energy, giving you sounder sleep, reducing inflammation, releasing toxins, helping you lose weight, and restoring proper digestion. During the cleanse, you replenish your body with a ton of nutrients that it's been lacking with your regular day-to-day diet.

So, the brunch-loving being in us decided to give the digestive system a break and go a one day juice cleanse. The “light day cleanse” arrived on Sunday morning, courtesy of Lizzy’s All Naturals. This came in 4 bottles of smoothies, 300ml each, 2 elixir shots and 1 crunchy snack. They have many other options for their sets, including the Active Cleanse, Beauty Cleanse, Intensive Cleanse, Signature Cleanse, and the Slim & Cut Cleanse. If we are being honest, the light Day Cleanse sounded like an easy option, not quite sure what the thought process was in deciding this was the easier option! Anyway, to start the cleanse, it felt right to start the day with a cup of coffee; otherwise, by noon, there will be homicidal tendencies! I mean, it can’t go wrong, right?

A Timeline

Juice Number 1: I’m really drinking green juice? (9:05am)

So, juice number 1 in the set is The Warrior. You couldn’t have asked for a better time for words of affirmation. The juice is literally cheering you on “warrior”. You would think you have to chug it to get through It, but it is actually quite tasty. Drink it with a straw if you must. So far, so good..

Juice Number 2: I’m gonna pretend this is the coffee I usually replace my meals with (12:30pm)

So at this point, we are pretending this looks like coffee, and you can't tell us otherwise! This juice is Chocolate cashew milk. It honestly tastes as good as it sounds. But at this point, we are nearing lunchtime, and we've substituted lunch with this. This can be mildly frustrating, but it's fine, we're fine, you'll be fine!

Juice Number 3: I hate myself, but bad b*tches don’t quit (4:30pm)

Although we had the elixir shots and the crunchy snack, it still didn't feel enough. A big chunk of steak will work just fine! Juice number 3, however, was the ultimate favourite. The dominant taste of celery (we live for celery over here) made it feel like a taste of happiness. Because there's water as well, this juice feels quite filling. No steak because bad b*tches don't quit.

Juice Number 4: Can I finish this with KFC? (7:00pm)

Is this what life is made of now? We like mangos and strawberries, so I guess it’s not that bad. Honestly, it actually tastes good, and at this point in, as much as we may have wanted to finish this with a meal, it wouldn’t make sense to quit now. We’ve come this far, and it should pay off, right?

Lest we forget the water!

The water was an essential part of this cleanse because it's necessary to stay hydrated and flush out all those toxins!

Final thoughts

This literally is not a walk in the park if you are one of us who mistakes boredom for hunger. It was a challenge that gladly didn’t end with a burger. It was tough but pulling through made it all worthwhile. If you are used to eating all your meals and then having to substitute them with juice, it can feel like an emotional journey. It’s a good thing that the juice actually tasted quite good, so it wasn’t all bad; it’s just the craving for food that just would not go away. Regardless, the body felt quite different the following day. A lot lighter, actually, accompanied with a feeling of newness (newness?). Feeling quite refreshed, and honestly, you can never ask for a better feeling on a Monday morning. After this cleanse, it was essential to note transitioning back into food. Would recommend starting off with a big raw salad and snacking on raw fruit and veggies. Raw fruits and veggies are the next closest thing to your juice, so when you transition back into food, do it through raw foods, then cooked fruits and veggies, then nuts and seeds, then a few cooked grains, and finally – the harder to digest things like animal products and beans.

Would we do this again? Maybe, most probably will actually.

The good news is we were able to get the set ready-made, so if you feel “influenced”, we would absolutely recommend Lizzy’s All Naturals! Check out the QR codes below.
